Tips to Overcome Today Crisis

1 comments

It has been a rough ride here with the crisis and 3 cases of H1N1 in Singapore. Reminds me of Yr 2002 when many businesses were hit by the SARS. That's when Nanz Chong's '1.99' shops went bankrupt. I was sitting in a cab today and the taxi driver was complaining that life is much tougher for them now. Things will be worse for them since the Circle Line opened today. When you are surrounded by bad news or negative ones which affected you, you can make yourself feel better by using the following NLP Technique:
1) Close your eyes
2) Recall your happiest times in your life
3) Immerse yourself in the visual, sound and feeling
4) Hold it there as long as possible
5) Repeat Step 1 - 4 using other happiest moments
The above will recharge you again.

A video to inspire you. What will you get when you put a man without 1 leg and a woman without 1 hand together?

Now, ask these questions to yourself,

"Am I still complaining that my present life sucks?

What have I done to improve my life despite my disadvantages in life?

Can I still survive in today's economic turmoil?

Am I happy with my current life then?

Have I lived my dream of beautiful life?"

No Shame or Embarrassment

0 comments

The Sages said: "It is better to jump into a flaming furnace than to embarrass somebody." Rather interesting thought, isn't it? One might even say it is extreme... and maybe it is. On the other hand, maybe it isn't :-)

Of course, the message is not to be taken literally, but to serve as a very pointed reminder that shaming or embarrassing another human being is something to avoid at practically any and all costs.

I've personally never seen anything good come out of embarrassing someone. Never heard a joke so funny that it was worth coming at the expense of another person's feelings. Never seen an employee make a mistake that could be effectively corrected by the use of shame.

Or, a lesson to a child so profound that it was worth embarrassing or shaming him or her, especially in front of others. I actually saw this happen recently and can only hope the child doesn't carry the embarrassment with him forever, or learn that that is how one teaches a lesson to one he loves.

If you (and I'm sure you don't) have a tendency to, or have formed the habit of, embarrassing or shaming others as a way of teaching or getting them to do what you want, you might choose to print out the above quote and keep it somewhere where you can see it until you begin to notice an end to that particular trait.

People who win without intimidation always carry an awareness, and act with the awareness that a person's ego is the most fragile thing they have.

Remember what the great author, Les Giblin said; "What counts is attaining personal satisfaction without trampling on the ego of the other person."

Those who win without intimidation also know that when we get our point across in a way that leaves the other person's ego intact (via tact and kindness) we earn their respect, loyalty and a desire to more readily accept our point of view the next time a situation to persuade arises.

Tips to Live a Beautiful Life: Honesty & Integrity

3 comments

A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business.

Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.

He said, 'It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. 'The young executives were shocked, but the boss continued. 'I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO.'

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew.

Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing.

By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure.

Six months went by -- still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however. He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so wanted the seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection.

Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful -- in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him!

When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives.

Jim just tried to hide in the back. 'My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown,' said the CEO. 'Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!'

All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, 'The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!'

When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed - Jim told him the story.

The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, 'Behold your next Chief Executive Officer!

His name is Jim!' Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed.

'How could he be the new CEO?' the others said.

Then the CEO said, 'One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible for them to grow.

All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!'
  • If you plant honesty, you will reap trust
  • If you plant goodness, you will reap friends
  • If you plant humility, you will reap greatness
  • If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment
  • If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective
  • If you plant hard work, you will reap success
  • If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation
  • If you plant faith in GOD, you will reap a harvest
So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later.

'Whatever You Give To Life, Life Gives You Back'

Tips to Live a Beautiful Life: Happiness

0 comments

Happiness is a Voyage

We convince ourselves that life will be better once we are married, have a baby, then another. Then we get frustrated because our children are not old enough, and that all will be well when they are older. Then we are frustrated because they reach adolescence and we must deal with them. Surely we’ll be happier when they grow out of the teen years.

We tell ourselves our life will be better when our spouse gets his/her act together, when we have a nicer car, when we can take a vacation, when we finally retire.

The truth is that there is no better time to be happy than right now. If not, then when?
Your life will always be full of challenges. It is better to admit as much and to decide to be happy in spite of it all.

For the longest time, it seemed that life was about to start. Real life.
But there was always some obstacle along the way, an ordeal to get through, some work to be finished, some time to be given, a bill to be paid. Then life would start.
I finally came to understand that those obstacles were life.

That point of view helped me see that there isn’t any road to happiness.
Happiness IS the road.

So, enjoy every moment.
Stop waiting for school to end, for a return to school, to lose ten pounds, to gain ten pounds, for work to begin, to get married, for Friday evening, for Sunday morning, waiting for a new car, for your mortgage to be paid off, for spring, for summer, for fall, for winter, for the first or the fifteenth of the month, for your song to be played on the radio, to die, to be reborn… before deciding to be happy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happiness is a voyage, not a destination.
There is no better time to be happy than… NOW!
Live and enjoy the moment.
-Author unknown
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now, think and try to answer these questions:
1 – Name the 5 richest people in the world.
2 – Name the last 5 Miss Universe winners.
3 – Name the last 10 Nobel Prize winners.
4 – Name the last 10 winners of the Best Actor Oscar.

Can’t do it? Rather difficult, isn’t it?
Don’t worry, nobody remembers that.

Applause dies away!
Trophies gather dust!
Winners are soon forgotten.

Now answer these questions:
1 – Name 3 teachers who contributed to your education.
2 – Name 3 friends who helped you in your hour of need.
3 – Think of a few people who made you feel special.
4 – Name 5 people that you like to spend time with.

More manageable? It’s easier, isn’t it?
The people who mean something to your life are not rated “the best”, don’t have the most money, haven’t won the greatest prizes…
They are the ones who care about you, take care of you, those who, no matter what, stay close by.

Think about it for a moment.
Life is very short!
And you, in which list are you? Don’t know?

Let me give you a hand.
You are not among the most “famous”, but among those to whom I remember to share this message…

Some time ago, at the Seattle Olympics, nine athletes, all mentally or physically challenged, were standing on the start line for the 100 m race. The gun fired and the race began. Not everyone was running, but everyone wanted to participate and win.

They ran in threes, a boy tripped and fell, did a few somersaults and started crying. The other eight heard him crying. They slowed down and looked behind them. They stopped and came back… All of them…

A girl with Down’s Syndrome sat down next to him, hugged him and asked, “Feeling better now?” Then, all nine walked shoulder to shoulder to the finish line.

The whole crowd stood up and applauded. And the applause lasted a very long time…

People who witnessed this still talk about it. Why?
Because deep down inside us, we all know that the most important thing in life is much more than winning for ourselves.

The most important thing in this life is to help others to win. Even if that means slowing down and changing our own race.

If you share this message, perhaps we will succeed in changing our heart, perhaps someone else’s heart, as well…

A candle loses nothing if it is used to light another one.”

So, what have you decided? Trash this or share it?
